Obituary for Juan Manuel Palomo MD

Juan Manuel Palomo, born October 2nd, 1975 to parents Jorge and Cristina Palomo in Bahia Blanca (Argentina), died suddenly and inexplicably on Saturday morning, November 12th , 2011 in the arms of his wife, Amy, in their New York City apartment.

Juan Manuel, known better to his friends as “Manny,” came to Cleveland, Ohio after completing medical school in Buenos Aires, Argentina, in 2001. He worked for three years as a Post-Doctoral Fellow at the Brain Tumor and Neuro-Oncology Center, Cleveland Clinic Neurological Institute. There he published two papers, three abstracts and a presentation poster, and received the 2008 Innovator Award from Cleveland Clinic. He was excelling in a pre-residency in Neurosurgery at Cleveland Clinic at the time of his passing.

Manny believed in the power of good deeds, kindness and devotion. He also loved to laugh with others, and never took himself so seriously as to forget the beauty and fun in ordinary things. He loved to take care of everybody and every living thing with an unmatched vivacity, and applied himself so thoroughly and with notable innovation to whatever was the issue at hand, never taking tomorrow, nor other people, for granted. It delighted him to be someone who people could count on, and those who crossed his path quickly sensed the earnest goodness about him. His coworkers at the Clinic remarked that his patients were instinctually comforted by his gentle, radiating warmth. Most remarkably, Manuel and Amy shared a profound consciousness of each other’s spirit, and noticeably effortless love.

Manny is survived by his wife, Amy Irvine Palomo, parents Jorge and Cristina Palomo of Brazil, brothers Antonio (wife Franciele) and Pablo Palomo of Brazil and Martin (wife Leena) Palomo of Cleveland, niece Veda Palomo. Also survived by Nellie and Stephen Irvine of Towanda, Wendy (husband Jason) Bellows of Granville Summit, and Brian (wife Stephanie) Irvine of Lake Ariel. Nieces and nephews Collin, Taran and Evelyn Bellows, Nathan and Allyson Irvine.

A private service was held on Monday November 21 at Assembly of God, presided by Reverend Tim Geiger, who also officiated Manny and Amy’s wedding on August 7th of this year. Remembrances may be posted at www.dimicelifuneralhome.com. Friends and family are being received at the Irvine residence, Towanda. Donations may be made to the charity of your choice, in Manny’s name.
